The Volta Regional Branch of the National Council of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Government -Assisted Senior High Schools have asked the Ghana Education Service (GES) to stop meddling in the fixing of levies and dues.

The Association said the continuous fixing of PTA levies and duties by the GES contravened a court ruling on the same issue and cautioned the Service against the practice.

These were contained in a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency in response to a directive from GES to the Association on its levies and dues in the schools.

The release said GES could not issue directives to the Association on that subject matter and urged it to “focus on its core business” of ensuring effective teaching, learning and monitoring.

It explained that the Association was duly registered with the Registrar General’s Department and issued with a certificate to commence business, therefore, it was important for the GES to work with the Association as a “development partner” in the schools and not as an “appendage” of the GES.

The release explained that the Association fixed its levies and duties only at Annual General Meetings in accordance with its constitution and that it was unacceptable for the GES to be interfering in the Association’s business.
