This is Reggae on the Mountains an annual festival celebrating the rich cultural heritage of reggae music and its affiliated genres and the visual and performing arts of talented individuals and groups.
The maiden edition is set to coincide with the Odwira Festival in Akropong on 7th October 2017. The maiden edition will feature artists who have honed their skills on the shores of mother Ghana and who are resident in Ghana, eventually the event will feature artists from several parts of Africa to promote continental/cross cultural collaborations.
Ghana as a nation can boast of many international accolades in music however in the last decade the only genre that has won awards, breached boarders, and brought repute to our nation is reggae/dancehall.
This is a billion dollar industry waiting to be tapped into, with a well of undiscovered talent ready to be unearthed.
With the blessing of several elevations within Akuapim Range of Mountains, the event has the potential to move location, entice an international following and also boost the tourism levels of these mountainous regions.
Spin off events like mountain biking, hiking, mountain climbing, paragliding and bird watching are all potential developments that could further bring a much needed economic investment to the areas chosen for the events.
Reggae On The Mountains will also consist of career enhancing workshops, that will endeavor to build a better brand of artist for export to the international scene.
Organizers have a vast network with access to international reggae artists from Jamaica, united states and Europe. With the right sponsorship packages a-list artists are available to participate in future events.
