Former President Jerry John Rawlings and wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings joined hundreds of mourners on Thursday to commiserate with President John Dramani Mahama following the loss of his mother, Hajia Abiba Nnaba.
The former President and wife accompanied by a large delegation joined President and Mrs. Mahama and his family for a short Islamic ceremony at their family residence in Accra to bid farewell to Hajia Nnaba who passed away at the SSNIT Hospital in Accra on Tuesday.
The ceremony, which was presided over by Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief Imam, was attended by government officials, leading members of the governing National Democratic Congress, the opposition New Patriotic Party and other minority parties as well as scores of sympathisers and political party supporters.
Earlier on Thursday morning, the former President called on President Mahama at his official residence to privately extend his sympathies to him.
President Rawlings was accompanied by his daughters Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa and Amina.
The delegation to the funeral ceremony included Dr Zenator Agyeman-Rawlings, who is the NDC candidate for Korle Klottey, cousins Michael Agbotui Soussoudis, Cann-Tamakloe and John Blagogee and a host of others.
Hajia Nnaba would be buried at her hometown of Busunu in the West Gonja District on Friday.
